Climate and Rainfall

The climate of the City of Alaminos, Pangasinan falls under Type I of Corona’s classification which is  characterized    by two (2) pronounced seasons: the wet and the dry. The wet season starts from June to October. During these months, the locality is marked by increased rainfall at a rate of 3000-3,500 mm. brought about by the southwest monsoon. The area is also frequently visible by tropical cyclones during these months. Average humidity is reached at late dawn when the temperature is minimum. The coldest months are December, January and February with the lowest air temperature of 20 degrees Celsius while the hottest month is April recording the highest  temperature of 35 degrees Celsius.                                                                                                                      

Alaminos City has both dry and rainy season. The dry season is from December to April, while rainy season is may to November. During the rainy season, the average rainfall is 304 mm., usually the heaviest rainfall occurs in August which  often times reaching 1063.5mm. Generally, typhoon usually passes through over  Alaminos City and the rest of the northwestern Pangasinan municipalities on their way out to the China Sea.

These oftentimes caused floods and destroy agricultural crops. Typhoons Cosme in 2008 and Emong in 2009  were two of the  typhoons of recent times that brought heavy damages to properties and agricultural crops and both occurred very unusual in   the months  of May. Some experts predicted that this is due to global effects of climate change. (Climatological Data 2008-2012)
